+2 votes

dear bhante. i like to ask, if it is possible to start a weekly dhammapada class for learning pali- maybe on youtube.
by reading verse by verse of the dhammapada, we ca learn how to say the words and learn pali together with the dhammapada.

thanks,rodrigo

I'm not really up to online Pali classes; too much work for too little gain. If you come here, I can teach you with the others, if you like.

Or, if you have questions, you can post them here; don't start with the Dhp, try the Dhp commentary (the stories) instead. They are much easier.

Maybe an online class would be too much, but some lessons or indications for study would be easier. You could indicate some sections in DPR, or any other texts, and provide explanations on most difficult things, possible misinterpretations and so on. There are enough materials on the net for studying grammar and other technical stuff, but when reading from real tipitaka a lot of problems appear. There are many compound words; the order of words is sometime hard to figure out, there are a lot of emphatic particles and many other things which could make a beginner (like me) to renounce. This way maybe this forum would be more active and more people will try to learn pali.
That might be interesting... if I could avoid teaching grammar, we could just open threads discussing passages - I could ask a question, what does this passage mean, and you could post your answers, which I could correct.
